SPEAKERS

DR JANICE KNOX MD, MBA

Anesthesiologist, Endocannabinologist, & Cannabinoid Medicine Specialist

32-year board-certified anesthesiologist who has expanded her clinical expertise to include cannabinoid medicine. Her knowledge and experience in endocannabinology and cannabinoid therapeutics has improved her patients’ experience
in treating, finding relief, and self-healing from chronic diseases that conventional medicine has been unable to conquer.

With
a mission to deliver precision cannabinoid medicine to every patient looking for such a personalized approach to healing, Dr. Janice co-founded the American Cannabinoid Clinics with her family.

Dr.
Janice asserts that delivering cannabinoid care begins with the understanding of the intricate and complex physiology of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). Ongoing research continues to reshape our understanding of the ECS, and taking care of patients relies
upon providers staying current with the science as the mysteries of the ECS are revealed.

Dr. Janice co-founded ADVENT Academy to provide premier training for the health professional in  the ECS, endocannabinology and cannabinology. Dr. Janice serves the Academy as course director, content developer, and lecturer. Dr. Janice also serves as the Oregon representative to Doctors for Cannabis Regulation (DFCR), and serves on multiple advisory boards such as GoFire, Inc., Pure Green, LLC, PRA Global Inc, and Initiative, Inc.

DR JESSICA KNOX MD, MBA, MPH

Preventive Medicine, Endocannabinologist, & Cannabinoid Medicine Specialist

At Kentucky State University, Dr. Shawn Lucas and his research team conduct studies on diversified organic farming systems that will ultimately help producers answer questions about developing best management practices for their operations. They are currently investigating the effects of integrating pastured small-ruminant livestock into organic crop rotations. Such rotations are increasingly being adopted on small- and medium-sized organic farms across the state. Dr. Lucas’ team is examining impacts on soil quality and water quality in response to this integrated rotation system. Results from this study may help producers make important management decisions. In addition to his organic systems research Dr. Lucas coordinates a nationally recognized research program on industrial hemp at Kentucky State University, which has participated in the Kentucky Industrial Hemp Research Pilot Program since its inception in 2014. Current research efforts include examination of the impacts of field retting of fiber hemp on soil quality, examination of impacts of several biofertilization products on crop biomass, grain yields, and soil enzyme activity, and aquaponic production of hemp. Lucas and his team are also developing several lines of research to examine how hemp best fits into organically managed systems in Kentucky, including variety trials and examination of agronomics and economics in organic rotations.  Results from these studies may provide useful information to producers, processors and marketers participating in the growing hemp industry in Kentucky.  At the heart of his research interests is the concept of sustainability.

DR RACHEL KNOX

MD, MBA is a certified Cannabinoid Medicine specialist

She has medical and business degrees from Tufts University after completing her undergraduate studies at Duke. She trained in Family and Integrative Medicine before pursuing additional study in the areas of Functional Medicine, Cannabinoid Medicine, and Endocannabinology - the study of the function, dysfunction and modulation of the most important physiologic system in the human body, the endocannabinoid system. She is passionate about educating her professional peers and broader public about the safety and effectiveness of Cannabinoid Medicine, the evidence-based clinical integration of Endocannabinology with Cannabinology, the study of the pharmacology of cannabinoids and other cannabimimetic biologics. She further believes that the ECS validates a biopsychosociospiritual model of medicine, and that it provides the biologic evidence for the ancient medical practices that model the same. As a Cannabinoid Medicine specialist and endocannabinologist who has counseled several thousand patients in cannabis therapeutics, she has seen first-hand how significant a role cannabis and cannabimimetic modalities play in helping patients reclaim their health and overall sense of wellness, establishing renewed ownership over their lives. She has witnessed her patients safely use cannabis as adjunctive therapy to their conventional treatment plans, to wean from prescription drugs, find relief from the side effects of toxic therapies, or avoid conventional pharmaceuticals altogether.
